February Book Reviews

Better late than never, yes? I ended up reading pretty much all manga in February...

You Will Drown in Love
Author: Hinako Takanaga
Genre: manga, romance, yaoi
Rating: 4/5
Summary: In the sequel to You Will Fall in Love, Jinnai is excited when he learns his boss is retiring, thinking he has a chance at a promotion. But he's beside himself when he finds out the company president's son (who is much younger than he is) is his new boss instead. At first the two men don't get along at all, but little by little Jinnai notices how sensitive and nice Reiichirou is. Before long, he realizes he's in love with him. But Reiichirou is such an airhead he doesn't realize he feels the same until Jinnai tells him! He's never been with another man before so he resists Jinnai's advances until he finally gives in and admits he loves Jinnai, too...
My thoughts: This was apparently a sequel to You Will Fall in Love, but I don't believe I've read that and I got through this fine. My opinions on this are a bit blurred by now, but I think I liked it quite a bit. The characters are really cute and their situation was both frustrating and adorable.

Totally Captivated Volume 5
Author: Hajin Yoo
Genre: manga, romance, yaoi/ shonen-ai
Rating: 4/5
Summary: The new Director Kim confronts Mookyul on the young loan shark’s own turf, but Mookyul quickly cuts him down to size, leaving his bitter rival to vow revenge. Ewon continues his roller coaster love affair with the unpredictable and possessive Mookyul. Then, late one night he finds Mookyul’s foster father, Chairman Lee, waiting for him and the old man has a few choice words to say to Ewon. He even threatens Ewon’s life indirectly. Now, Mookyul faces a terrible choice. He must choose between his lover Ewon or his foster father Chairman Lee. But, whatever the choice, there’s going to be hell to pay.
My thoughts: I so can't wait for the next volume!! I really love this series, but it's so hard to wait for the next volume after such a cliffhanger! I know what's going to happen ish (thank you spoilers! XD), but I still really can't wait to see it all unfold. Anyway, I still hate the chairman... creepy old man. Ewon and Mookyul were adorable and hilarious as always. I just wish Sangchul had been in this volume a bit more (though he did have a very important part, me thinks!). ILU Sangchul!! <3

Yellow Omnibus Edition Volume 1
Author: Makoto Tateno
Genre: manga, action, romance(?),  yaoi
Rating: 4/5
Summary: Taki and Goh share just about everything - their apartment in the city, their job as elite drug snatchers, and even dinner duty. But hot Goh wants to go much deeper undercover with his gorgeous partner. Too bad Taki doesn't swing that way... or does he? If yellow is the warning color, will this team finally end up in-the-red (and in bed)?
My thoughts: I think I liked this more than I originally thought I would. I liked all the action along with the sex and general interaction. Taki and Goh were quite amusing. Maybe next volume they'll finally get to have sex with each other instead of other people XD I hope so!

Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji) Volume 1
Author: Yana Toboso
Genre: manga, fantasy, mystery, drama
Rating: 4/5
Summary: Just a stone's throw from London lies the manor house of the illustrious Phantomhive earldom, its master one Ciel Phantomhive. Earl Phantomhive is a giant in the world of commerce, Queen Victoria's faithful servant . . . and a slip of a twelve-year old boy. Fortunately, his loyal butler, Sebastian, is ever at his side, ready to carry out the young master's wishes. And whether Sebastian is called to save a dinner party gone awry or probe the dark secrets of London's underbelly, there is practically nothing Sebastian cannot do. In fact, one might even say Sebastian is too good to be true . . . or at least, he is too good to be human . . .
My thoughts: Do you realize how hard it was to not put "romance, yaoi" in the genre?? XD So much innuendo and hints and such... Anyway, I'd read the first few pages of this online a while ago and got bored. This was so much better! I love being able to flip back and forth through so many pretty pictures. Really, that's most of the reason why I bought it XD But I really did like it a lot. That being said, I like the anime more. Still, I'm eagerly awaiting the next volume. More pretty!
