Day 8

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.

I'm sure this will come as a surprise to anyone who has talked to me in the past six months (can you feel the sarcasm yet? can you?), but I'm going to talk about the Midnight, Texas tv show!! It's basically everything I ever wanted when I talked about loving the trope of magical towns during last year's FSC lol I've been preaching it to anyone who would listen since I started watching, and happily, I've gotten several people addicted to it as well. So now it's time for the rest of you to love it too :D

[hello, I can talk forever]Midnight, Texas is a supernatural tv series based on a book series (which I haven't read, so idk how similar they are) of the same name by Charlaine Harris. Yes, same Charlaine Harris from True Blood. The show centers around the inhabitants of a little town in Texas where basically everyone is supernatural or supernatural adjacent, and they just want to be left alone. The main character, Manfred, is a psychic who can talk to ghosts (including his dead grandma who lives in his RV!) and is running from something in his past. Fiji is the sweetest witch you will ever meet, but she's also super protective of the town and its inhabitants. Bobo runs the local antiques shop, with vampire Lem taking over at night. There's also Olivia, who is absolutely amazing, and the Rev with a dangerous secret and Joe and Chuy who own the local tattoo parlor/nail salon. Those are the main characters, but there's also a host of side characters with great potential. I don't want to spoil anything, but there are some v interesting revelations about the identities of several of the characters.

And now for why I love it so much! First off is that there are so many female characters, and so many really good ones. Fiji and Olivia are both amazing and kick ass regularly, but they're also allowed to be complex and vulnerable and angry and loving. Fiji especially has a v important storyline in the show, and I think Olivia will as well if the show gets a season 2. The show also has quite a few POC (Fiji, Lem, Rev, and Chuy), and two canon interacial couples. Including a queer one! It's so nice to see those being so chill in the show, and so important too. There isn't the dancing around it that so many other shows do, so seeing good relationships (even when there was drama!) is really satisfying to me. The show can get a bit cheesy sometimes, but honestly, I think that's part of the charm. It doesn't take itself too seriously, like some other supernatural shows *coughcough*. It's just a really fun show to watch, which I think is what I've missed in a lot of shows the past few years. Plus there's been some really great fic coming out of it :D

Afaik at the moment, Midnight, Texas has been neither renewed for a second season nor cancelled. So it can use all the help it can get by people watching it and calling for more! You should be able to watch it on NBC's website or on Hulu I think :)

I'm glad you enjoyed the show so much, but I read on several occasions that it has basically no chance of survival because the ratings were so bad... but you never know. I thought the same about GIFTED and now it got renewed and I'm So happy about it, so that's great =D
Yeah, I'm really not sure what to think. You'd think that if they were meaning to cancel it, they'd just do it since it's been so long. But then again, you'd think if they were going to renew it, they'd have done so by now as well. I'm hoping it turns out as well as The Gifted!
I love this show. How can they not renew it!?
I have no idea... I guess it didn't do as well as they hoped?
I'm glad you enjoyed the series. I do love Olivia and Fiji.
They are definitely my faves :)
