Fandom Snowflake Day 13

Day 13

In your own space, set some goals for the coming year.

I absolutely failed on all the goals I set last year, but sure, let's try again lol Maybe a shorter, more easily doable list? I think one of my problems is that I set a lot of goals and a lot of really big or complicated goals and get discouraged when I can't finish them all quickly and easily. So some shorter, easier goals this time!

  • Post 100k words of fic to AO3. I posted over 80k in 2017, so I think this one shouldn't be too hard.

  • Create a writing schedule. This is mostly so I don't end up frantically writing exchange fics at the last moment, which I do waaaay too often. With a schedule, I'm hoping I can work through some of my natural impulse to put things off as long as possible.

  • Finish a piece of original writing. I managed a v short short story last year, so hopefully I can do something longer this year.

  • Learn a new graphics technique. I like making icons, but I feel like I've been pretty stagnant in my skills? So I'd like to learn something new.

  • Write a backlist fic. I have a list of fics I've put up as goals to try to finish in years past. I'd really just like to finish just one of them.

Awesome goals! With the amount of challenges and exchanges out there, 100k should be doable! Not sure you need any more challenge suggestions, but what has helped me to keep producing in the past are the weekend challenge on 1-million-words, the weekly challenges at slashthedrabble and the drabbletags at femslash100. Also the mini holiday rounds at rounds-of-kink.
haha yeah, I already do so many challenges and exchanges. I was actually thinking about taking this year off from doing them so I could work on other things, but I knew I would miss them too much XD

I've seen 1-million-words before, but it always seemed really intimidating to me... But maybe I should check out one of the others? femslash100 might be good bc I am trying to write more femslash.
I get that feeling! I participated in challenges back when I too blocked to come up with my own ideas, but then I suddenly I started getting all my own ideas, and exchanges got in the way of me writing those. There are also uni- and writing anxiety-related reasons I haven't been participating in exchanges for a while, but boy do I miss it!

Yeah, I think I saw 1mw about two years before I decided to join the bandwagon because it does look overwhelming and busy, but actually, the community is super chill and welcoming and all about encouraging you to create stuff, whether it's fic or graphics or whatever. Another perk is that a lot of times, the challenge hosts will take the time to actually read your contribution even if they don't know the fandom.

femslash100 is also another chill community and perfect for starting out to write femslash! They have word count limit of 100-250 words, which helps if you want to experiment with new pairings. If you, like me, have trouble deciding which pairing to write, they're also hosting a drabbletag where people fill prompts and leave prompts for other people to fill. (Which also means you have a recipient for that fill and a high chance of receiving a comment ;))

Sorry for gushing, I just really love both communities, because they've kept me creating over the years. If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to throw them my way, because I'd be thrilled to see you participate in either comm :D
"I absolutely failed on all the goals I set last year, but sure, let's try again lol"

OMIGOD thank you. I thought I was the only one.

"Maybe a shorter, more doable list." Sounds like a plan.

Goals are hard and I am terrible at them! But it's nice to know I'm not alone lol
Awwwwwwwwwwww... good luck with all of your goals... I really hope you can achieve them :)
