group projects are the worst

So I'm a senior in college, set to graduate in May. Woo hoo and all that.

As such, I've obviously done a few group projects, even group essays. This semester though. This semester I have group projects in 5 of my 6 classes. FIVE. And multiple group projects in several of the classes. And all of them going at the same time. Like, what is this shit??

I'm a senior, I'm busy, I don't really care any more, and they're just piling things on. Group projects take far more planning, time, and energy than doing the same thing by yourself, and they are also far more stressful. So yay, senior year stress topped with multiple group project stresses. That sounds like an excellent idea.

Really, I just don't understand the obsession with group projects in college, especially recently. They all say they're trying to get people used to doing group projects in "the real world," but I don't think the two are in any way similar. I don't have a lot of experience in "the real world," but still. In college, you have no control over the people in your group or the work they are doing. You and they have no accountability toward each other or the project because no one can be fired/kicked out and generally the group receives a grade, so everyone suffers if one person doesn't step up.

I'm sorry, I just have a lot of feelings about college and group projects and almost none of them are good.
